5* Grand Hotel National

Lucerne, Switzerland

The Grand Hotel National is a famous 5-star hotel in Lucerne, Switzerland, which opened in 1870. Located on the shores of Lake Lucerne, it looks out over the Lucerne bay and the alps of Central Switzerland.

The current owners of Grand Hotel National plan a renovation of the public areas. We were asked to develop a holistic concept for the former iconic home of world renowned César Ritz. The aim of the renovation is to offer a high quality of service and help attract luxury leisure travelers and locals alike.

The new interior layout incorporates the building's historical architectural structure. Traditional and grand, with a hierarchy of space and form that will take the hotel experience into a new age of refined elegance. It remails authentic to the destination, while tapping into both historical tradition and Swiss heritage.

Inspired by the Golden Age of Travel, the renovation foresees rich materials and finishes in the major public spaces. Additionally, it intends to revive and refresh the original identity through the property's exterior and interior appearance.
