Ina Rinderknecht: The Art of Re-Use – Architectural Memory and Spatial Innovation in Hamburg

The Art of Re-Use

Hamburg

On September 4, 2025, Ina was invited to give a speech on “The Art of Re-Use – Architectural Memory and Spatial Innovation” at an architecture talk in Hamburg. The event, organized by ap35 GmbH, was held at the former US consulate and future „Jefferson” Hotel and explored how architectural substance can be approached creatively, responsibly, and with a forward-thinking mindset.

In her speech, Ina demonstrated how Re-Use and Transformation not only contribute to the conservation of valuable resources, but also embed identity, memory, and narrative into interior architecture. In an era of increasing resource scarcity and rising climate awareness, building within existing structures is becoming both ecologically vital and culturally rich. She was joined by Martin Murphy (Störmer Murphy and Partners) and Stephen Williams (Stephen Williams Associates), who presented their work on the former US consulate and other case studies related to architectural reuse and the transformation of existing spaces.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended and helped shape this inspiring evening with their thoughts, questions, and ideas.
