Villa Sophia
Villa Sophia is a classical 3-storey villa, which was built in the year 2000 on the hills of Küsnacht. Nestled into the lush landscaping of the property, the house offers a rare sense of isolation, while it simultaneously opens up onto a breathtaking panoramic view of Lake Zürich.
This project was about transformation - taking the original, classical structure and introducing simpler, modern detailing to create an oasis fit for our client's younger, modern lifestyle, using soft, pastel tones.
The double height entry hall creates an immediate balance of grandeur and minimalistic elegance. The centrepiece of this foyer is an elegant chandelier made of porcelain by the Parisian design studio Mydriaz. Quietly sitting below are an oval ottoman and wood, sideboard table, both custom designed by our team.
From the entry hall, with its existing floors of white marble, one reaches an enfilade sequence of three rooms: the reception room, living room and dining room. The passageways between these rooms are framed with new elliptical arches in a light natural oak, softening the transition between the rooms.
The three living spaces visually relate to each other in their use of color and textures, yet each space also works on its own. Touches of oak interplay throughout the furniture, architecture and the new, beautiful herringbone parquet floor which ties the spaces together.
The living room provides a calm oasis, created by the subtle use of colors and effervescent textures. The watercolor painting by Italian artist Illaria Franza perfectly compliments the glass chandelier and the "Water Lily" rug designed by Ina Rinderknecht, created in collaboration with Tai Ping. Delicate shades of rose and sky blue play off the cream tones of the furniture.
The center of the three rooms is the reception room, which invites you to linger and take in the view. The overriding feature in the choice of furniture was soft shapes and gentle curves. Light, pastel shades make the rooms shine with a lightness without losing their elegance.
The Moonpapier pendant light by designer Olga Engel manages to make a grand statement through simplicity. It pairs wonderfully with the organic marble table and the soft, wraparound shapes of dining chairs. Lovely Aisian-inspired cabinets complete the room.
The sunlit Office, features two generously sized workstations. Meticulously crafted custom furniture not only offers expansive storage, but also seamlessly integrates electrical plugs at the center of each desk, presenting a practical and sophisticated solution for concealing cables. Embracing both functionality and aesthetics, the office space is designed to elevate the work environment with a focus on efficiency and a refined, contemporary appeal.
Soft powder tones accent the Dressing room, which is dominated by floor-to-ceiling custom built-in wardrobes. Luxurious oak cabinets are given a modern sensibility with white paneled doors, creating a lightness and freshness to the room.
Soft, muted tones underlie the master bedroom, where the family bed nestles against the custom-designed headboard, upholstered in pale green wild silk. The soft furniture is complimented by a piece from Ina Rinderknecht’s own furniture collection - a lovely curved bed bench at the foot of the bed.
The bathrooms received the biggest transformation, where each room had a different colored marble hand selected. Combined with light, natural oak at the vanities and dressing tables, the bathrooms exude modern elegance.
The floors in the bathrooms were covered with large stone slabs, as were select walls. A special feature can be found in the family bathroom, where a curved niche of marble swings halfway around the free-standing bathtub. This bathroom was also complemented with specially designed furniture in light oak wood.
The client wanted a family room space that was playful and inviting, yet elegant - a room for all generations. Sophisticated touches and soft pastel hues create a warm atmosphere, while playful touches remind us all of the child inside.
The children's room is a child's dream. The custom-designed loft bed with its illuminated round arch takes its place in the center of the room. Here one can play, sleep, read and even hide on the two levels. A cozy armchair - just the perfect size for the small occupant - a small desk chair, and many pink pillows give the room its feminine accents.
The glass winter garden provides the perfect place for the family to entertain. This room offers a long dining table, which, together with a lounge and specially designed sideboard, create another intimate place to dine and drink in style. Pendant lights made of rattan, as well as dining table chairs made of a light wickerwork underline the garden flair in this room. Here, one is immersed in the world of green and earth tones, fully suited to the nature that envelops the glazed conservatory.
Within the spacious, terraced gardens, lies an enchanted garden pavilion which is reached by a small bridge over its own pond. This pavilion has been fitted with a new kitchenette, a round dining table in light natural oak, and custom-made upholstered bench seating - all setting a colorful stage for future fondue evenings or summer night parties.
We created a new terrace platform with generous seating where the family and friends can sit and enjoy the amazing view. Enveloped by the scent of roses and rosemary, here you can witness the dreamlike sunsets over Lake Zurich.
